The Christ in Christmas

What does this holiday season really mean to me?
Growing up Christian meant that every year around this time, we receive messages on how Christmas isn’t about the gifts, decorations, Santa Claus and secular Christmas songs, but rather the birth of Jesus. While this is true, recently I was able to fully understand and appreciate the power in the purpose of Christmas.
Some people take the birth of Jesus as a small thing, especially those who don’t believe. However, for me His birth represents the beginning of my life. Jesus was born to die. While that sounds ironic, it is most important. If He wasn’t born in that special manger just to die on that old rugged cross, my life wouldn’t be worth living.
This knowledge and belief are essential because as a freshman in college, I can see how easy it is for my faith to be challenged and swayed. The culture and beliefs by peers and teachers can negatively affect my mindset if I’m not fully grounded in the word of God. Not to mention the negative impact factors such as bad grades can have. However, I am continuously reminded about the joy this season brings and how great it is that my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was born! He remains the focal point for this season and should never be removed. Afterall, the Christ in Christmas still lives forever!
