The Beauty of Adoption in America

Dear President Biden,

In 1989 the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified international human rights treaty in history. The vision of the convention was to offer the rights and responsibilities to each child, appropriate to his or her age, to enable them to reach their full potential.

In almost all developing countries, children and young people make up the majority of the population – up to 70 percent in some cases. The number of children adopted in the United States are 29,325 being White, 11,631 being Hispanic, and 9,588 being Blacks. People ask why Black babies are cheaper? It is because in the U.S., prospective parents seek to adopt white and mixed-race children more than Blacks. In 2017, there were 400,000 children in foster care, awaiting adoption. Of those, 44 percent who were white were placed in loving families, with the help of public agencies.

Adoption-God’s Gift

In Ephesians 1:15, God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him delight. The story of the Bible is the story of adoption. We are all adopted into God’s spiritual family, as chosen children of God.

Adoption is a beautiful reflection of God’s love. We are all created in His image and can relate to being adopted as we return to the Father’s love. The Bible tells us that true religion is taking care of orphans (James 1:27). From research we know that those who choose to adopt often experience a stressful and trying process. So we hope these Bible verses will bring comfort and encouragement to those in the process of adopting a child(ren) and those who have completed the process.

Mr. President, I hope that you will allow the promotion of more adoption so people like myself, who have been adopted, can find loving homes.

Thank You!
